In the latest installment, these “bulwarks never failing” are at it again. The year is 1960 and a reformation is underway. With a new crop of Confirmands, Beverly, the youngest of the bunch, dons her first pair of high heels for her confirmation ceremony. Mrs. Snustad, the matriarch of the kitchen, wins top honors at the County Fair for her “Grand Champion” pickles. Mavis, the able-bodies farm wife, must find a way to deal with the new “Super Highway” which cuts through her farm. Karin, the real homemaker of the kitchen, finds new freedom behind the wheel of her husband’s pickup truck and must reconcile a new world of change for her daughter, Beverly. In keeping with its tradition of providing a BIG summer experience, the Minnesota Zoo has announced a first-of-its-kind exhibit for summer 2014–Big Bugs! Thirteen super-sized, animatronic bugs will invade the Zoo’s Northern Trail along with a live bug display and several fun, interactive elements. This FREE exhibit (with paid Zoo admission) will showcase a bug’s life and why bugs are important. The larger-than-life bugs, a new feature of Billings Productions of Allen, Texas, move through the use of pneumatics, systems operated by compressed air. Some of the bugs are interactive, including the pincer-controlling stag beetle or the water-spraying bombardier beetle. Big Bugs! at the Minnesota Zoo will run Memorial Weekend through Labor Day, 2014, and is made possible with support from the Clean Water, Land Legacy Amendment.

The Minnesota Twins will host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in July 2014 at Target Field! Baseball's best players will descend on Minneapolis for five days of events at Target Field and the Minneapolis Convention Center leading up to the 85th All-Star Game, scheduled to be played on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. It's the first time the Midsummer Classic will take place in Minneapolis since 1985 and the first ever All-Star Game at Target Field.
