Celebrating 30 Years of Promoting #MyBurnsville!

January marks the beginning of the Burnsville Convention & Visitors Bureau's 30th Anniversary. Since 1987, the organization has dedicated itself to increasing visitor traffic and tourism spending to the area and to promoting Burnsville as a vibrant destination of choice featuring a rich and diverse mix of culture, arts, shopping, dining, attractions and accommodations.

Barb Obershaw, Mary Nienhaus, Pat Roehrick (Executive Director 1989-1999), Ruthie Batulis - 1999Serving as the destination marketing organization for the City of Burnsville, the Burnsville Convention & Visitors Bureau (now known as Experience Burnsville) was originally formed as a division of the Burnsville Chamber of Commerce to further the economic impact of tourism in Burnsville by attracting visitors, conventions, meetings, events and trade shows. In 2001, after nearly 14 years under the umbrella of the Burnsville Chamber of Commerce, Experience Burnsville became a new not-for-profit corporation. Funded by a 3% lodging tax collected by Burnsville hotels, the organization has seen a steady annual growth rate since its inception. Experience Burnsville Executive Director, Amie Burrill, 2006 - Present

The Experience Burnsville Board of Directors provides direction for the Bureau and staff and while the Board has consisted of many people from a variety of industries over the last three decades, the Executive Director position has only been held by 5 individuals with Amie Burrill, hired in 2006, currently holding this position.

During the early years, Experience Burnsville had seven lodging properties and focused its marketing efforts on three tourism markets: Leisure, Group Tour, and Meetings and relied heavily on print advertising, travel trade shows, sales calls, familiarization tours, telemarketing and direct mail programs to reach prospective visitors. Today, Burnsville has nine lodging properties for a total of 850+ rooms and due to changes in technology and tourism trends, the organization focuses solely on the Leisure market. Experience Burnsville relies on many forms of digital advertising, social media marketing and co-operative partnerships to draw visitors to Burnsville and position itself as a premier visitor destination. Promoting Burnsville leads to escalating visitor revenues and a favorable economic impact for our city and it gives us great pride to celebrate such a milestone.
