In 2011, Burnsville was a finalist town in Rand McNally’s Best of the Road® Rally in the category for “Best for Food.” See for yourself why Burnsville was nominated as one of the “Best Small Towns in America,” and treat yourself to this tour of Burnsville, a replica of the one that rally judges, The Fun Finders, were given on their visit.
Best of the Road® Rally Burnsville Tour
Day 1:
Begin your morning with breakfast or a cup of coffee at a hometown favorite, like Jo Jo’s Rise & Wine. Then spend the morning strolling through Bi-Centennial Garden, where you will see the Crab Apple Tree planted by The Fun Finders on their visit, or any one of Burnsville’s pristine parks. Next, it’s time for a sweet treat at Abdallah Candies, a Minnesota family owned candy company since 1909. Here, sample some of their most popular candies and chocolates, watch the hand dipping process, and even do a little shopping for someone special in the gift store.
If the candy doesn’t fill you up, the next leg of the tour will, because nothing goes better with something sweet than something salty! Now it’s off to Burger Jones, one of Burnsville’s newest restaurants, known for their delicious burgers and off the wall sense of humor! Try the Summit Beer Battered Cheese Curds with the Slider Sampler Platter, or if you’re feeling really ambitious, challenge yourself to the “Meat Your Maker,” which boasts approximately 10,000 calories! Craving something more exotic than a burger? Head to bd’s Mongolian Grill for a make-your own stir fry, delicious appetizers, like Wham Bam Shrimp, and of course a refreshing drink like the CervezaRita, a margarita with an upside down beer!
A trip to Minnesota isn’t complete without a day on the lake. Spend your afternoon at Crystal Lake, swimming, walking, biking or just lounging on the beach.
A long afternoon in the sun will certainly work up an appetite. Slide on over to Chianti Grill for an authentic Italian dinner, fresh seafood or steak. Try their Prosciutto & Arugula Flatbread, Spicy Tenderloin Tips, Zuppa di Pesce & Cashew-Encrusted Seabass with a glass of wine or specialty beer from their large selection.
If it’s a laid back atmosphere you seek, try Roasted Pear, a family-owned restaurant, known for their sophisticated salads, appetizers, brick-oven pizzas, hearty pastas and meaty ribs and steaks. Try some of the Fun Finder’s favorites like the Thai Chicken wood-fired pizza, Wood-Fired Chicken Wings, R.P. Wrapper and the Roasted Pear & Craisin Crisp.
On a beautiful night in Minnesota, you will want to visit Porter Creek for a truly unique dining experience. Not only do they serve a wonderfully fresh contemporary American menu with California-Mediterranean influences, but they also have a fully landscaped patio, complete with outdoor fireplaces and water features galore, including the famous “Water Table.” Try their Walleye with Smoked Pepper Tartar or their award-winning Salmon with Roasted Corn Sauce.
Top off your night at Morgan’s on Nicollet located inside the BEST WESTERN PREMIER-Nicollet Inn for great drink specials, a late night snack, and some great entertainment.
Day 2:
This morning settle in for a hearty meal at Jensen’s Café, where breakfast is served all day long and they are known for their homemade butter maple syrup. Afterwards, enjoy a walk through Burnsville’s Heart of the City and Nicollet Commons Park, where during the summer months the water features are lively, and you can even catch an outdoor concert or movie in the park! While in the Heart of the City, take a tour of the state-of-the-art Burnsville Performing Arts Center, which houses a 1,014 Proscenium Theatre, Black Box Theater, and a 2,000 square foot Art Gallery, and features local and national touring acts, musicians, singers, and comedians.
Head across the street to the lively Mediterranean Cruise Café, for their renowned lunch buffet, where on Fridays you can enjoy live belly dancing over lunch. With a full stomach, it’s time to head home!
