A Country Christmas Experience
Day 1:
Today, visit the Faribault Woolen Mill Store in nearby Faribault, the only remaining "Fully Verticle" woolen mill in the country and home of the famous Faribo blankets. See the production process of making a product from raw wool stock including blending, dyeing, carding, spinning, weaving, burling and finishing the product. Browse through the retail store.
Arrive in Burnsville and receive a warm welcome at your Burnsville Hotel. After dinner at one of Burnsville's restaurants, enjoy the "Winter Lights Tour" by Down in History Tours, a two-hour tour with a guide from winter lore, who will lead you on a fun-filled, de-lightful tour.
Or, perhaps you would like to visit Macy's in Minneapolis for the Annual Holiday Show and see the 8th floor auditorium transformed into an animated adaptation of a classic children's tale, featuring three-dimensional animated figures in a series of vignettes. Allow free time for shopping and dining on your own.
Then, it's back to Burnsville to drive along Burnsville Parkway with it's lighted snowflakes and trees and view the lighted trees in Nicollet Commons Park.
Day 2:
Stop at Susie Q's Accents in Burnsville to browse through gift and home decor items. Visit the Alexander Ramsey House in nearby Saint Paul where Victorian holidays flourish during Ramsey House Holidays. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Forepaugh's Restaurant, an elaborate Victorian mansion.
Stop at Como Park Conservatory to view the breathtaking poinsettia display in the largest Victorian-style glass domed botanical garden in the region. Then, see "The Christmas Window" at North Heights Lutheran Church in Arden Hills featuring holiday music, ice skating, animation, dancing and aerialists. Rediscover the miracle of Christmas with a special family as imagination comes to light through their window.
Tonight, enjoy a delicious dinner and the Annual Holiday Show at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Filled with a delightful collection of old time classics, seasonal favorites, lighthearted contemporary tunes and wonderful costumes, you're sure to get into the holiday spirit. Enjoy beautiful decorations inside and out!
Day 3:
Visit the Basilica of Saint Mary, America's first basilica and view French architecture, stained glass windows, Italian marble sculptures and the 250' dome. The Basilica is enhanced with poinsettias and evergreens.
Take a guided tour of the American Swedish Institute, a beautiful 33-room mansion, featuring "A Nordic Christmas" with traditionally decorated trees and table settings for each of the Nordic countries. Schedule a lovely lunch featuring open-faced sandwiches and soup. Browse through the gift shops.
Visit The Landing - Minnesota River Heritage Park to enjoy "Folkways of the Holidays" featuring the treasured traditions and old customs of the 19th century. Tour eleven different holiday settings featuring costumed interpreters and enjoy lively folk artist performances.
Stop at popular Burnsville Center and browse through the stores. Call ahead to receive welcome bags and discount cards for your group. Dine on your own at one of the quick-serve restaurants or Applebee's.
Tonight, enjoy a Branson-style Christmas performance featuring a cast of 70 singers, steppers, musicians and comedians who make the Christmas season come alive before your eyes at "The Lundstrom's Country Christmas Celebration".
Day 4:
Today, if you are departing our region to the east, stop in Stillwater to see the Santa House with thousands of Santas filling every room of a private home. Return home with warm, wonderful memories of "A Country Christmas Experience".
