What has the BCVB done for you lately?
Phew! It was very busy year here at the Burnsville Convention & Visitors Bureau (BCVB). Showing off all that our fair city of Burnsville has to offer keeps us darn busy. If you’re not familiar with who we are or what we do at the BCVB, read on. You’ll learn about some the ways that we support the City and promote its appeal to potential travelers and visitors.
1. A FRESH NEW LOOK
In January, the BCVB went through a logo and brand image refresh to help market Burnsville as a tourist destination. With this new look, potential visitors see our logo and immediately get the feeling that Burnsville is a fun, vibrant, modern city with endless possibilities!
2. TAKING IT ON THE ROAD
In February, we attended two sports shows, the 2014 Sioux Falls Sports, Camping & Vacation Show and the 2014 Duluth Boat, Sports, Travel & RV Show representing Burnsville. We promoted Burnsville to thousands of attendees and personally visited with over 500 people!
We also attended the 2014 Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference in Duluth. This annual event gives us a “sneak peek” at what is planned for the Explore Minnesota Tourism advertising in the coming year. 3. A GOOD TIME FOR ALL – PLAN ON IT!
In the Spring, we worked with the City to help brainstorm ways to expand theI LOVE BURNSVILLE Week Friday Fest that takes place in June. Ideas were to include a food truck, beverage tent/vendor, and add yard games to the event which already included an outdoor movie and other fun activities.
In addition to helping plan the event, BCVB staff coordinated food truck and beverage vendors and volunteered during the event as well! Food, pop and Mary Poppins outside on a huge screen? Such fun! If you didn’t make it last year, plan on it for 2015!
4. CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF COMPANIONSHIP
In July, we participated in the 40th anniversary and celebration of A Prairie Home Companion and Lake Wobegon® where Burnsville, along with communities all across Minnesota, became honorary “Lake Wobegons” for the weekend of July 4–6, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the show that brought the town to life. Our photo was shared on the Prairie Home Companion Website as well as their social sites and using the #hashtag #WeAreLakeWobegon, our photo was also accessible to thousands of social media users.
5. THE COMPETITION IS FIERCE
The BCVB is host to the Burnsville Garden & Landscape Contest in June as well as the Winter Lighting Contest in November and December. They are both community contests that helpus promote the beautification and sustainability of our community.

6. A NIGHT TO UNITE
BCVB Staff, along with City staff, also participated in Burnsville’s Night to Unite in August where we meet Burnsville residents and handed out BCVB Ticket to Experience Burnsville coupon pages and BCVB pens to those at various block parties throughout our community.
7. TURN THE HEAT UP – IT’S FIRE MUSTER TIME!
In September, a group of dedicated Board members as well as staff and other friends of the BCVB volunteered to manage a gate at the 2014 Burnsville Fire Muster. Some of us also embraced the opportunity to live our broadcast dreams as parade announcers. It was great fun to get out and meet those who live, work and play in Burnsville!
8. ON THE ROAD AGAIN
In September we attended the Upper Midwest Convention and Visitors Bureau2014 Fall Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska which gave us the opportunity for education, motivation and networking with other industry professionals. We traveled down to Nebraska by bus with some fellow Minnesota CVB’s and had a great time networking and learning ways to make our CVB the best it can be. Plus, we found out that Lincoln, NE is a pretty cool place! (Who would have thought?) ☺
9. HALLOWEEN FEST
BCVB staff volunteered to donate and pass out candy at the City of Burnsville annual Halloween Fest in October. We a great time getting in the spirit of things – dressing up and adding festive flair to our booth! We passed out pens and Ticket to Experience Burnsville coupon pages to attendees as well. It’s a spooktacular good time! Join us this year on October 23, 2015 at the next Halloween Fest!
10. HOWDY, PARDNER!
We are always looking for opportunities to partner with industry organizations that help further our mission. There are several organizations we have continued to be involved with, or members of, this past year that furthered the use of our marketing dollars in ways we couldn’t on our own.
- Minneapolis South is a partnership consisting of three communities in the south metro; Burnsville, Eagan, and Lakeville marketing to the leisure traveler, throughout the Upper Midwest.
- We’re a Metro Tourism Committee As an extension of Explore Minnesota Tourism, the mission of the Metro Tourism Committee is to increase the economic benefit of tourism in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metro Area.
- Tour Minnesota Association (TMA) is the largest organization dedicated solely to Minnesota’s statewide group travel industry. TMA is dedicated to growing group travel in Minnesota by promoting Minnesota as an exciting and unique group travel destination for operators, group leaders and travel agents and bringing tourism destinations, group travel service providers, and operators/planners together for planning and growth.
We are also members of various organizations in Burnsville to promote the BCVB – to help grow the community, and to network with others in our area.
- Burnsville Commercial Real Estate Council (BCREC), committee member to help encourage and grow economic development in Burnsville.
- We helped organize and plan their main event of the year where over 50 area commercial real estate brokers are given a bus tour of area properties.
- Burnsville Chamber of Commerce to support and to help sustain and grow Burnsville’s business community serving on various committees and task forces for added visibility and involvement.
11. HERE TO STAY
Maintaining a close working relationships with the hoteliers in our community is of utmost important to us. To that end, we hold a meeting with those from our nine lodging properties on a bi-monthly basis to give them time to network with their peers, keep up to date at what’s happening at the BCVB and the City, and always try to provide an educational opportunity or speaker to aid in growth and development.
12. HOT OFF THE PRESS
We just wrapped up the publishing of our 2015 Visitor Guide and Ticket to Experience Burnsville coupon page. These pieces help us to promote Burnsville by giving travelers a comprehensive guide of all Burnsville has to offer as well as discounts to area attractions, dining and shopping while they’re here. By now you should have a much clearer picture of all the ways that the BCVB promotes and supports the City of Burnsville. Lucky for us, there are tons of great things happening in and around Burnsville on a daily basis. Promoting all that we have to offer is actually pretty easy but please don’t tell our boss that!
